The Faculty is working to develop the profession of clinical informatics, building on the Core Competency Framework, and working as part of the Federation of Informatics Professionals (FedIP) to ensure an inclusive and comprehensive approach.  Now is a great time to join the Faculty and help to shape the future of the profession.  The Faculty offers a range of membership benefits and a list can be found here

All Faculty members are required to pay an annual subscription fee, click here to view the list of fees.

We are very pleased to be able to offer bursaries to cover the first year’s membership fees:

Membership levels and eligibility requirements

Fellowship

  • has experiential exposure to clinical informatics in the workplace, through direct care, research, development, education, leadership or policy

  • has made major contributions to the advancement of clinical informatics in the UK or internationally

  • demonstrates leadership and/or national recognition in the field

  • demonstrates commitment to the advancement of clinical informatics in the UK

  • requires registration with a statutory body overseen by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA)

Example:  GMC, NMC, HCPC, GPHC, GDC, Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Scottish Social Services Council, Northern Ireland Social Care Council)


Membership/International

  • has experiential exposure to clinical informatics in the workplace, through direct care, research, development, education, leadership or policy

  • has made significant contributions to the advancement of clinical informatics in their locality, or in the UK, or internationally

  • demonstrates recognised leadership in the field, either in their locality or nationally

  • demonstrates commitment to the advancement of clinical informatics in the UK

Example: GMC, NMC, HCPC, GPHC, GDC, Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Scottish Social Services Council, Northern Ireland Social Care Council)

  • For International Membership, evidence of valid clinical registration in their jurisdiction is required

Associate

  • exhibits an ongoing enthusiasm and engagement in clinical informatics

  • does not require registration with a statutory body overseen by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA)

Appeal and feedback

Appeal 

An appeal may be lodged where an applicant wishes to dispute the decision made by the assessment panel. Applicants will not suffer any disadvantage or recrimination as a result of making an appeal. An appeals submission must be made by the applicant, the Faculty will not enter into correspondence with any third party in relation to appeals.

Appeals must be made no later than 20 working days after the notification of the assessment panel’s decision. The Faculty retains discretion to extend this period and appellants should contact the Faculty at info@fci.org.uk to request an extension if necessary. 

An appeal must be submitted using the Appeals form and emailed to info@fci.org.uk. There is no charge for making an appeal.

Feedback on application 

If an applicant would like feedback on why they were not offered the category of membership that they aimed for, they should email info@fci.org.uk and assessment panel feedback will be provided. This is not the same as an appeal, however the applicant is welcome to appeal after they have received this information.

Reapplication 

If an applicant does not achieve the membership category that they aimed for, they can complete a new application form and re-apply, and their application will be assessed in the next time recruitment round.

In the meantime, the applicant is welcome to join the Faculty at the level of membership that they have been offered (e.g. Member rather than Fellow).  

Before re-applying, the Faculty encourages applicants to thoroughly review their previous application, and request feedback, and to consult with someone who has experience of the process, such as an existing Fellow of the Faculty or a mentor. Please contact info@fci.org.uk for guidance. 

If an applicant wishes to query the administration or conduct of the application process, rather than just the outcome of their application, they must make a complaint rather than an appeal. See the Faculty Complaints policy.
